If you haven't seen it already, the Athletic Department has released an up to date spring roster for the football team (LOCATED HERE). Nothing particularly amazing (other than the fact that we only have 12 listed O-Linemen, thank you very much, Fatty Pants McGee) unless you are obsessive and bored during your lunch break like I am.
BEHOLD:Name: Shakir Edwards
Vitals: 6 foot, 210 pound, 5th year senior out of MLK in Detroit. Listed as a safety. If he ever plays Safety we're in some trouble.
Play History: Mainly special teams work. Actually played last year and recorded a couple tackles, but mostly just blocked while Greg Matthews ran away from his blockers and looked for the sidelines on punt returns.
But here's the amazing thing, from his bio:
Shakir Nwomba Edwards was born on March 1, 1986 ... uncle of former Wolverine and current Cleveland Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards ... enrolled in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts ... English major.
uncle of former Wolverine and current Cleveland Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards
uncle of [...] Braylon Edwards
Now come on...that's awesome AND amazing! We're going to be unstoppable next year. Were you ever better than your uncle at football or any sort of athletic competition? Hell no! Uncles were created to torment their nephews by blocking every single shot in a "friendly" game of 1-on-1, or picking them up and carrying them back to the opposite end zone to record their 30th safety of the family reunion flag football game.
Plus, remember what Braylon did in his senior year?
Exactly.
The point of all of this: Shakir Edwards is obviously better at the game of football than his nephew, and if RichRod does not realize this soon, we're cruisin for a bruisin in 2008.
