What would happen if you could take the 1997 Michigan Wolverine football team and have them play the 2007 Akron Zips??
BEHOLD:
2007 Akron Zips | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | TOT: 3 |
1997 Michigan Wolverines | 14 | 16 | 7 | 20 | TOT: 57 |
Holy shit! 57-3! We were awesome in 1997!
It starts off kinda shaky, though. Akron drives down the field pretty quick and nabs an early field goal. It's not until the 8:05 mark that Griese hits Tuman for a 29 yard touchdown strike. The freshman A-Train hauls off a 27 yard run at the 3:36 mark of the first to bring our scoring to 14.
The most amazing thing about this game is that Lloyd kept the pedal to the metal, and the first stringers laced Akron for 20 meaningless points in the 4th quarter.
Other notes of interest:
* Michigan racked up 31 first downs and was 10/19 on 3rd Down Conversions.
* Michigan rushed for 275 yards (on 61 attempts!!) and threw for 305 (oh God if only this would ever be true).
* Michigan recorded 7 sacks in the game.
* Griese scored 5 touchdowns, busting a single game school record.
*Charles Woodson picked off Chris Jacquemain (of course).
* Kraig Baker didn't miss a single field goal (gasp) and hit 2 from 48 yards (double gasp).
* Zippy is probably the worst mascot in the history of the world.
All of this from www.whatifsports.com, so expect to see more of this random nonsense in the future. They even give you a play by play breakdown of the games, which is great. I'm setting up a tournament for sometime in the near future, but I thought I'd give you a taste of the inherent hilarity contained within.
Oh, by the way... the 1996 Florida Gators (my second favorite team) beat the 2007 Zips 62-13, and allowed more than 200 yards of Zip rushing (MAC SPEEEEEEEEEEEEED).
Danny Wuerffel went for 426 yards but only 4 touchdowns. Heh. Wimp.
More later...

I like this post, but it needs more BJer because, well, you can't stop him. He's too big for you.
I hate to ruin the universe or anything, but shouldn't we be taking a look at 97 Nebraska vs. 97 Michigan? Or 02 Ohio State vs. 97 Michigan? Aren't these the matchups that keep us awake at night?
I did 97 Michigan vs. 02 OSU. Michigan won 22 to 3.
Someone write a story about it!
